Our team has developed a digital platform to enable providers to deliver comprehensive health checks, including all the tests and additional features required by the NHS for the NHS health check. ToHealth (a previous company established by MindLife’s founder) has carried out about 300,000 health checks using this digital platform, mainly for NHS patients. It is designed to enable providers to deliver comprehensive health checks (including customised variations of the health check) by nurses or health care assistants (HCA). The HCA interviews patients (or members of the public who are entitled to receive free health checks) takes their blood pressure, height, weight and a tiny droplet of blood from their finger to check their cholesterol and glucose levels (or HbA1c glycated haemoglobin) with mobile point of care equipment.
Our interactive healthcare system instructs the HCA to take all the tests and ask all the relevant questions regarding lifestyle, nutrition, exercise, smoking, stress, etc. In addition to calculating the risk scores it provides an interactive multimedia presentation which the HCA can share with the patients. In order to motivate and encourage the patient to improve his lifestyle and comply with the recommendations the system enables the HCA and the patients to play “what if” with several practical scenarios tailored to the patient’s risk factors. For example, if a male patient is smoking and obese and has received high-risk health check results it will show how much he can reduce his risk of cardiovascular disease if he stops smoking. It will also show how much his risk of cardiovascular disease would further reduce if he were to also also lose weight. Similarly, he will also be able to see the reduction of risk from other positive lifestyle changes he could make.
In addition to providing the information to the patients the system sends the information to the patient’s GP.
However, we realise that it is not enough to present to users their risk and what aspects of their lifestyle they have to change, because their lifestyle was created by many years of habit, and most users need a personalised behavioural modification interventions (preferably with some supervision, follow-up and rewards, etc) in order to change their habits.
MindLife has developed comprehensive digital platforms to enable us (and collaborators) to develop personalised assessments and personalised psychological and behavioural modification interventions. The first platform, UpliftNow, enables us to develop any combination of questionnaires, assessments, digital multi-media interventions, including appealing health education content and skill practices, etc. The platform converts the assessment and intervention into a friendly app for the user. These interventions can be exported to a second platform, Ai-Leap. Ai-Leap can manage patients, clinicians, researchers, administrators and the library of digital interventions and assessments. It enables clinicians to deliver self-help apps or blended therapy/interventions to their patients, and to monitor and follow up the progress of the patients and deliver further behavioural modification interventions if required.
MindLife can customise the assessments, health checks and behavioural health modification according to the organisation’s/provider’s and patients’ needs.
One of the main purposes of developing these platforms is to enable us to deliver personalised interventions for each patient according to their specific personal needs, circumstances and preferences, to ensure effective outcomes.
